Little Women Cast

The March Sisters are here in the new Little Women movie. This time with Greta Gerwig behind the camera leading a stellar cast.

Based on the classic novel by Louisa May Alcott, Little Women tells the story of Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy March. Four sisters with four different personalities must depend on each other with their father at war, and their mother working to support them.

Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh and Eliza Scanlen star as March sisters. Meryl Streep plays Aunt March. Laura Dern plays Marmee, and Timothée Chalamet plays Laurie.

The trailer reminded me of the 1994 version of the film starring Winona Ryder as Jo March. It’s a favorite of mine to this day. I could also never get enough of the 1933 version of Little Women with the wonderful Katharine Hepburn. Both actresses played Jo March with perfection.

I was hesitant to see what the new adaptation of the book to film would bring, but it looks promising, especially with the star-studded cast. And Saorise Ronan brings Jo to life with that perfect amount of spirited charisma.

“Women, they have minds, and they have souls, as well as just hearts. And they’ve got ambition, and they’ve got talent, as well as just beauty. I’m so sick of people saying that love is just all a woman is fit for. I’m so sick of it,” Jo states adamantly. I feel ya, boo. Many girls nowadays will relate to Jo March more than ever.

And can we please talk about Meryl as Aunt March? I can’t wait to see that undercurrent of Miranda Priestly come through, only this time older and less stylish.

One of the issues I have with the cast, however, is the fact that the sisters all look the same age, and way older than the age they’re supposed to be. I am mostly talking about Amy, played by Florence Pugh. In the book she’s 12 years old. Not sure how all of this will work in the film.

Regardless, I’m sure it will be entertaining, and hopefully won’t deviate from the book too much.
